Installation of the CSense Data Server

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • You have a Windows account that has administrator privileges on the target system where SQL Server is installed.

  • The current user has a valid SQL Server login on an existing instance of SQL Server accessible on your local machine or on the domain network. This login must have the following Server roles: 

    • dbcreator

    • securityadmin

    • serveradmin
      or
      sysadmin

Installing the CSense Data server:

  1. Mount or extract the contents of the distributed iso file.

  2. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted archive contents and run the Setup.exe file located in the root folder of the extracted contents.
    The INSTALL CSENSE dialog opens.

  3. Select Proficy CSense.

  4. Click Start.
    The Proficy CSense Setup dialog opens.

  5. Click Next.

  6. From the installation options, select Advanced install.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select CSense Data Server.

  9. Enter the address of your existing Microsoft SQL Server instance.

  10. Click Test Connection.
    The connection will succeed if the entered address is valid.

  11. Click Next.

  12. Click Install.
    The installation begins and the CSense Application and Data Servers, and Microsoft SQL Server are installed. 

  13. Click Finish.

Installation of the CSense Application Server

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • You have a valid Proficy CSense license for this version.

  • Windows accounts you specify for the CSense Services must have administrative privileges on the local machine.

  • The custom service account user that you specify has permissions to specific CSense databases on the CSense Data Server. For more information on setting up user accounts on the CSense Data Server, see the Setting up SQL Server for CSense access section.

  • The CSense Data Server is installed on a remote machine with an existing SQL Server instance on the network.

Installing the CSense Application server:

  1. Mount or extract the contents of the distributed iso file.

  2. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted archive contents and run the Setup.exe file located in the root folder of the extracted contents.
    The INSTALL CSENSE dialog opens.

  3. Select Proficy CSense.

  4. Click Start.
    The Proficy CSense Setup dialog opens.

  5. Click Next.

  6. From the installation options, select Advanced install.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select CSense Application Server.

  9. Select the location where you want the CSense application to be installed.
    The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Proficy\Proficy CSense.

  10. Click Next.

  11. Select the location where you want the application cache to be saved.
    The default location is C:\Proficy CSense Cache.

    NOTE: Allow enough disk space for the cache data to be stored over a period.

  12. Click Next.

  13. Select the Custom account option and enter the custom account name and password.

    NOTE: The custom service account that you specify must be a valid domain account and must belong to a local machine Administrators group. Also, the custom service account user must have permissions to specific CSense databases on the CSense Data Server. For more information on setting up user accounts on the CSense Data Server, see the Setting up SQL Server for CSense access section.

    If it is a local machine name, enter the machine name in the MACHINE_NAME\UserName format or if it is a domain account, enter the machine name in the DOMAIN_NAME\UserName format.

  14. Click Next.

  15. Enter the location of your existing CSense Data Server.

  16. Click Test Connection.
    The connection will succeed if the entered address is valid.

  17. Click Next.

  18. Click Install.
    The installation begins, and the CSense Application Server is installed.

  19. Click Finish.

Installation of both the CSense Data and Application Servers

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • You have a valid Proficy CSense license for this version.

  • The current user has a valid SQL Server login on an existing instance of SQL Server accessible on your local machine or on the domain network. This login must have the following Server roles: 

    • dbcreator

    • securityadmin

    • serveradmin
      or
      sysadmin

  • Windows accounts you specify for the CSense Services must have administrative privileges on the local machine.

  • In case of a custom service account, the custom service account user that you specify has permissions to specific CSense databases on the CSense Data Server. For more information on setting up user accounts on the CSense Data Server, see the Setting up SQL Server for CSense access section.

Installing the CSense Data and Application Servers:

  1. Mount or extract the contents of the distributed iso file.

  2. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted archive contents and run the Setup.exe file located in the root folder of the extracted contents.
    The INSTALL CSENSE dialog opens.

  3. Select Proficy CSense.

  4. Click Start.
    The Proficy CSense Setup dialog opens.

  5. Click Next.

  6. From the installation options, select Advanced install.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select All (CSense Application and Data Server).

  9. Click Next.

  10. Enter the address of your existing Microsoft SQL Server instance.

  11. Click Test Connection.
    The connection will succeed if the entered address is valid.

  12. Click Next.

  13. Select the location where you want the CSense application to be installed.
    The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Proficy\Proficy CSense.

  14. Click Next.

  15. Select the location where you want the application cache to be saved.
    The default location is C:\Proficy CSense Cache.

    NOTE: Allow enough disk space for the cache data to be stored over a period.

  16. Select the following options as needed:

    • Local System Account- Select this option if the SQL Server is on the local machine. 

    • Custom account- Select this option if the SQL Server is not on a local machine. Enter the custom account name and password.

      NOTE: The custom service account that you provide must be a valid domain account and must belong to a local machine Administrators group. Also, the custom service account user must have permissions to specific CSense databases on the CSense Data Server. For more information on setting up user accounts on the CSense Data Server, see the Setting up SQL Server for CSense access section.

      If it is a local machine name, enter the machine name in the MACHINE_NAME\UserName format or if it is a domain account, enter the machine name in the DOMAIN_NAME\UserName format
  17. Click Next.

  18. Click Install.
    The installation begins, and the CSense Application and CSense Data Servers are installed.

  19. Click Finish.
